The value of the UK-US 'special relationship' is becoming more questionable as the values and stategic priorities of the US continue to diverge away from those of Europe including the UK. The dependencies of the UK nuclear deterrent, intelligence capabilities and even AUKUS on the US are beginning to lookim like overreliance on a foreign power at the expense of our sovereignty and independence. The UK and other European countries really need to develop their own capabilities in these and other areas and move away from our 'all our eggs in one basket' approach. We need to wake up to the fact that 'Daddy' doesn't always know best and will not always be there to protect us.
I agree. Defend yourselves. We Americans are tired of it. Eighty five years worth, since 1941. Enough. 400,000 Americans died in WW II and 100,000 died in WW I because you Europeans could not leave each other alone. Enough cry baby crap. Defend yourselves.
Are we even a middle power at this point? The changes to the budget would have to be huge. You don’t see other middle powers giving up land so easily.
