Agreed they have really failed to meet the moment unfortunately. Tech and drones have democratised warfare allowing eveyone to have land, sea and air strike along with encrypted comms night sights etc even satellite imaging, the strait of hormuz was just the start we could see choke points on land sea and air either from state ofrnon state actors, grey warfare. This feels like such an own goal all the talk of reindustrliaation and apprenticeships, non uni pathways, spreading wealth away from the south expanding the royal navy and shipbuilding would help takle the neet issue, strenghten local economies, SMEs, drive exports and help move back to a more mixed economy not just services highly vulnerable to global shocks.
The DIP was cuts dressed up as new tech while keeping funding for a few big projects, they are cutting assets before replacement concepts have even been defined. The hybrid navy is a twisted version of fads cutting the t83 and renaming the t32 to a ccv while adding a t94 it will be reversed in 2yrs of studies showing it cant be done is more expensive and is less flexible/vulnerable let alone the issues of shipyards keeping workforces which are in high demand and already being poached by allies. The whole thing was very poltical taking credit for joint progams like gcap, aukus, stratus while trying to blame the hollowing out on the tories while taking no accountability to the destruction of shipbuilding and the shift to outsourcing in general under new labour making any reversal very costly.
