A new format for the Council on Geostrategy’s online magazine
To coincide with changes to the political landscape in the United Kingdom (UK), we have decided to relaunch Britain’s World – the Council on Geostrategy’s online magazine. From now on, Britain’s World will be published at least four times per week both as a newsletter and online.
Just as before, Britain’s World will remain the premier place for discussion of the UK’s international posture, how the world affects and sees Britain, and how Britain sees and affects the world.
On Mondays, we will publish The Cable, our weekly roundup of key events and developments in British foreign, security and defence policy. The first part of The Cable will focus on changes to British policy and strategy, as well as key speeches made by secretaries of state, ministers, politicians, officials and officers. It will then include three additional sections:
‘Albion’ (as in ‘perfidious’), will provide an overview of foreign perspectives on the UK’s evolving international posture. It will also contain a box showing how competitors, such as Russia and the People’s Republic of China (PRC), frame Britain;
‘Poseidon’, named after the God of the Sea, will locate significant Royal Navy deployments over the previous week;
‘Leckie’, named after Gould Francis Leckie, the first modern British geostrategist, will identify the most significant development of the previous week and explain how it will affect British interests.
On Tuesdays, we will publish a Broadside or a Memorandum. Broadsides will be short, fiery opinion pieces, while Memorandums, named after Sir Eyre Crowe’s famous Memorandum of 1907, will contain more detailed analysis, in essay format.
On Wednesdays, we will publish a weekly Reframer or Exchange. Reframers will challenge conventional thinking in a provocative but measured way, while Exchanges will involve two experts thrashing out an idea through argumentation.
Finally, on Fridays, we will continue to publish our Big Ask, where we ask up to ten analysts to answer a topical question, who provide snappy and original responses.
We hope you enjoy this new format of Britain’s World. To receive all this and more, please subscribe!
